It looks like more and more residents are using the Emerald Viewer, a cool viewer with lots of features, especially for builders. I've been using it since it has been first released, as far as I can remember and the developers add more new features, each release version.
I can't remember the last time I used the official Second Life viewer anymore. I usually use Snowglobe instead, when I'm not using Emerald, cuz the textures and map load faster in Snowglobe. But as usual, it's not how it used to be.
What I personally like about Emerald:
- Temporary texture upload (don't need to go to the Aditi beta grid for this, well imagine that I can actually get naked at my own place!)
- Double click teleport
- Teleport to camera view
- IM automatic reply when busy, reply to every message, reply only to none friends or to all, send random item on automatic reply
- Integrated sim wide scan and resident profile check
- True online status of residents
- Ability to always fly (even on no fly sims)
- Ability to enlarge profile and 1st life pictures (I wish picks too)
- Ability to set default texture and color of prim for initial creation
- Additional digits on build values
- Variety of ui skins
- Variety of windlight settings
- Ability to teleport straight to the location, shown at the log-on screen (great for exploring cool new places)
The latest feature which enables bouncy boobs, boosted the user count, as if it were to be expected (ya know SL is full of pervs anyway). The jiggly boobs feature is a fun feature, but the avie really needs to be jumping of dancing wild, for one to really see the jiggle. I tried it when it came out, but when I discovered the "losing your shape" bug, after I lost one, I stopped enabling the boobie bounce feature.
What I don't like about it, since the last update, is that you need to log-in at least twice if you didn't enable "remember avatar name", when logging-in. Now this really gets on my nerves, cuz I log on with different alts.
One of the few things that I also don't like about the emerald viewer, is the slow loading of textures. That's why I use Snowglobe instead, when I go to texture intensive shops. I hope they enable the http get textures soon.

You are right, I tried Emerald Viewer today and the slow loading of textures made me switch back to the original SL viewer.
I am new to second life, I play it now 9 days and wanted Emerald for the extra features, but with this slow loading it's not worth it.
I rather switch to the Snowglobe viewer when I visit places with lots of textures. But I still mainly use Emerald because of the many built-in features, especially the temporary texture upload.
I saw there's also an Emerald Snowglobe version on the Modular Systems' site. I might try that one by chance too and write some reviews.
